New Albany High School’s theatre program is an award-winning, nationally recognized leader in southern Indiana with a rich history dating back to over 100 years. Founded by Mr. Tom Weatherston, it is one of the oldest public high school drama departments in the state.
In 2024, NAHS Theatre was the inaugural winner of the Disney on Broadway School of Excellence program. It also earned the Educational Theatre Association’s “Outstanding High School Theatre” award in 2004 and 2020. The program has been featured multiple times in the New York Times arts section and has appeared ten times at the International Thespian Festival, most recently in 2022. Several alumni have gone on to perform on Broadway and London’s West End. Notable achievements include the National American History Award for the original musical Lewis and Clark (2003) written by David Longest , a Presidential Arts Scholar winner in 2007, and a documentary aired on Showtime and The Movie Channel. Alumni like Josh Dallas have starred in major productions such as Thor and popular TV series like Once Upon a Time and Manifest. |
